Climate change

Climate chaos has started, is very badly affecting other countries already, and will soon affect the UK in a similar fashion. In January 2005 the International Climate Change Task Force published the blunt warning,“We have only a brief window of opportunity before climate change could devastate our planet."

While climate science is complex stuff, the essence is simple enough – and the bottom line stark enough – for the way forward to be crystal clear. Human activity is unleashing twice as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as nature can absorb.

The main cause of man-made climate change is carbon dioxide. The main source of carbon dioxide emissions in the UK is buildings – and as homes account for 50% of buildings emissions, you and I are both directly involved.

The only solution is for us to break the habits of a lifetime and wean ourselves off our dependency on fossil fuels. We can wait until others do it, or until we are forced to. If we get on and do it, we can take the opportunity both to lead and to prosper.
